With The Beginning of the 1900's the frontier was starting to be turned into industrial cities. Many common animals were becoming rare. Many Americans saw that we needed to preserve the U.S.'s natural resources.
Then with Roosevelt getting elected as president he also shared those beliefs. He made lots of campaigns to help preserve wildlife and natural resources. With the support of many Americans by the end of his presidency he created 51 Federal Bird Reservations, 4 National Game Preserves, 150 National Forests, 5 National Parks, and enabling the American Antiquities Act which he used to proclaim 18 National Monuments. During his presidency he protected around 230 million acres of public land.
This was important because a lot of the animals would be extinct today. Many forests would have been chopped down and no national parks would have been made. There would be a lot more pollution because there would be less trees and America would be more industrial.
